Distilled in the far north of Scotland in the coastal town of Wick, Old Pulteney 12 Year Old is often called The Maritime Malt. Produced at Pulteney Distillery, the whisky matures just metres from the North Sea, where salty air and coastal humidity subtly shape its character. Matured primarily in ex-bourbon American oak casks, this is the distillerys signature expression a classic Highland single malt known for balance, freshness and its distinctive briny coastal influence.
It is widely regarded as one of the best-value traditional Scotch whiskies and an excellent introduction to coastal malts. Tasting Notes Colour: Pale gold with bright straw highlights. Nose: Fresh and inviting. Honey, green apple and citrus zest lead, followed by vanilla cream, malted barley and a gentle sea breeze salinity.
Light floral notes develop with time. Palate: Medium-bodied and clean. Sweet malt, toffee and orchard fruits are balanced by subtle saltiness, lemon peel and soft oak spice. The bourbon cask influence adds vanilla and a creamy texture while maintaining a crisp, coastal character. Finish: Medium-long, slightly dry and refreshing, with lingering notes of honeyed malt, citrus and a delicate briny edge.
